Ana Giron - Vice President I am originally from Honduras, but Atlanta is my home. Architecture for me has always been the goal--I've never had doubts about it. I believe architecture has so much potential for change in the world, and I wouldn't want to be part of any other field out there. I joined AIAS, initially, to get more involved in the field, but along the way have found some amazing people to share the journey that is architecture school, which is I think vital to be successful in the program. I am the current VP of AIAS and last year I was the Secretary--both which have helped a lot in my development professionally. AIAS is such a great organization to be a part of and I'm so glad we at KSU have the opportunity to be contribute to it. Michelle Nguyen - Administrative Vice President I joined the American Institute of Architecture Students my second year in 2016 because it seemed like a good way to get to know people in the architecture program as well as connect with professionals in the field. Last year as Fundraising Coordinator I coordinated bake sales throughout the year as well as organized the Jeremy Smith Scholarship Foundation Napkin Sketch Auction. I currently hold the position as Secretary where I help keep the organization running smoothly. Caleb Lawrence - Financial Vice President I have always been extremely influenced and excited by architecture. Since I was a kid I was always interested in the way that space is designed- both in the built environment and in nature. I am currently in my fourth year and I aspire to one day work in some way with the National Park Service designing education and other types of park service buildings. have been a member of AIAS since my first year of architecture school. I think that the American Institute of Architecture Students is one of the best ways to get in the loop of the professional side of our field as well as a great fellowship opportunity to find a family in the major. In addition to architecture I love being in nature, playing music, and just hanging out with my people. Diana Gil - Jeremy Smith Scholarship Fund Coordinator I am currently the Jeremy Smith Scholarship Fundraising Coordinator. This means I'm responsible for organizing the annual JSSF napkin auction event. I first joined AIAS about three years ago as a way to get more involve. Since then I have become increasingly involved with all the events held throughout the year. By doing so it has given me the opportunity to meet so many interesting people. I am also part of Alpha Rho Chi, which is a professional fraternity. Being part of both these organizations has forced me to learn how to manage my time efficiently, which has been my biggest challenge. I have grown and learned so much by being a part of both organizations. Apart from all of that I also enjoy the occational hike, dancing, traveling, and singing alone in my car. David Trinidad - Design Foundations Coordinator I attended a local college for a year playing soccer and trying to figure out just what my passion was. I studied biology my freshman year with the idea of doing pre-named undergrad. My family moved to Atlanta in 2013 from Candor, NY. and so after my freshman year I moved also for school to avoid out of state tuition, I attended the Atlanta School of massage in fall of 2014 still thinking I would use massage to better either a medical or chiropractic practice. In massage school I realized my passion was for architecture and not medicine. Spring of 2015 I started at KSU in the architecture program and have not regretted the decision for a moment. I hope to do architecture that goes beyond the aesthetic and helps to meet the needs of communities and peoples. My favorite Architects are Michael Murphy and of course B.I.G. When I’m not in studio or doing massage I love to host dinner parties. Christine Vu - Professional Program Coordinator I was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up I always loved math and science but never thought about architecture as a career. I wanted to be a paleontologist. Eventually, going to college, I majored in art and settled on interior design. The only thing was, I loved the architecture side of interior design and switched majors. I started the Architecture program at SPSU in 2014. Outside of architecture, I love animals, traveling, and food. If I can find a career to travel the world and take pictures, I’ll be good. Anthony Yan - Public Relations I was born in Brooklyn, and stayed there until I was around 6. During that time, I think is when I actually had an interest for architecture (however subtle it was at that stage). I went through highschool taking all art electives and 5 years of art classes outside of school to realize that I loved design and being creative in general. During my last year of highschool, I took architecture at Maxwell High School and became certified in Revit 2014 there. That is when I realized that I want to pursue architecture as a career because it just makes you a great all-around designer. You learn to think, communicate, and build; but I think the best part is the never-ending learning that comes with the career. My love for design has led me to being a person that loves being creative and although I love being creative with architecture, I love getting creative with my graphics as well which is what lead me to my position in AIAS so far. I am also a brother of Alpha Rho Chi Professional Fraternity for Architecture and the Allied Arts and I decided to be a part of these two organizations within the architecture department because I love to mentor and help others with whatever I can. Asbiel Samaniego - Membership Coordinator I am the Membership Coordinator of AIAS. This is the first official position I've had within the organization. I chose this position specifically because I wanted to get the chance to meet and socialize with new people. In particular the younger incoming students who have little to no experience in architecture. I like to see myself as someone that can be a positive role model for them. Through guidance and mentoring is how one gets through the program. Activities & Affiliations •AIAS - Design Foundations Coordinator (2017-2018) •Exercising, hiking. Rourk Brakeville - AIA Liason/ International Affairs I am a third year at KSU preparing for an undergraduate degree in architecture. Architecture has manifested itself into a passion that I truly connect with, and I therefore make sense of everything through it. My visual learning style has led me to join all the architectural organizations on campus, and soon to the engineering ones. My ambitions are taking me to SpaceX, and hopefully to a masters in Aerospace engineering. The final frontier is longing for an architectural interpretation. I hold the title of Professional Chair in APX, and AIA Liaison in AIAS. Other activities I participate in include drawing, playing and listening to music, walks, as well as enjoying nature and all that it is to be human.
